Content Analysis of the sociological patterns and themes in the movie Crash (2004)

Order Description

According to sociologist Earl Babbie, content analysis is the study of human communication through the examination of existing texts and/or images. For this assignment, you will perform a content analysis of the sociological patterns and themes in the movie Crash (2004).

Your task is to examine the images and/or plot and discuss their cultural and sociological implications. You must complete the following tasks:

1. Summarize any reoccurring themes that pertain to course content, especially gender, race, class, or sexuality inequalities. You should choose 2 themes and provide specific examples from the film/plot as evidence for your claims. (Please focus on race and gender)
2. Explain how the movie helps to shed light on common or universal social problems and/or explain how the movie acts to distort social reality.
3. Explain how the movie helps to expose taken-for-granted cultural norms or rituals. In other words, how does it expose cultural norms or rituals in a manner that reveals the social structures we all participate in? How does it make us question reality? Hint: Think about the Nacirema article.
4. To what extent does the movie encourage the development of our sociological imaginations? Don’t forget, the sociological imagination requires us to consider biography, history, and social structure and how that influences the individual.
5. You must connect your claims to at least two course readings. This will anchor your research and connect it to other sociological work. Citations can be in whichever format you’d like (MLA, APA, ASA, etc.), as long as you reference the work properly using in-text citation. No reference page is required since you will be using the course reader.
