Compare/contrast the speeches of Red Jacket and Tecumseh. Obviously, they are both speeches by Native Americans; because this information is commonplace, it need not be addressed.

Analytical Response #2 Read the General Notes for Analytical Responses (found above). Read Red Jacket’s “[The Great Spirit Has Made Us All]” and Tecumseh’s “[The White Men Are not Friends to the Indians]”. Skip the summary section for this particular analysis. Instead, provide an introduction that has an attention-getter, some brief background information including the titles and authors of the works you’re using, and a thesis that alludes to the purpose (compare/contrast) and content of the AR. Compare/contrast the speeches of Red Jacket and Tecumseh. Obviously, they are both speeches by Native Americans; because this information is commonplace, it need not be addressed. Instead, consider their style, use of literary techniques, tone, etc. How do they compare/contrast, and what difference does this make? Write this response in the THIRD person also. Use quotations sparingly–only where necessary to support a particular point (in other words, do not simply run a list of quotations from each text together. Concentrate on making your contrast/comparison and use the citations to support particularly difficult points). Refer to the Quoting, Paraphrasing, and Summarizing information under Instructor Notes for information on working a quote into a sentence or paragraph. Be sure to use parenthetical references properly (consult one of the recommended online sites or refer to a grammar book or MLA Handbook, usually found in reference material in all libraries). Include a Works Cited Page that lists all sources–in this case, the two writings you are discussing. Each will be listed separately accordingly to the format for one selection from a collection or anthology (this note applies any time you cite a work from your textbook). There is no excuse for incorrect MLA format, as examples are given here on Bb, websites are recommended for your perusal, and samples are readily found in grammar textbooks or MLA Handbooks. Mistakes are expected; lack of effort toward being as correct as possible is not. Save your file as [Your last name] AR2 2327 (for example, I would save my file as DriverAR2 2327) before attaching it. Be sure to save it as a .doc or .docx document.
