Compare the description of the flood in the Old Testament (145) with the flood in The Epic of Gilgamesh. Are the motivations the same? What about the results of the flood? In what ways might the story of Utnapishim be a different interpretation of the same outcome (event) as that in the Old Testament? Women play a particularly interesting role in the initiation of Enkidu and also in Gilgamesh s transformation from bad king to good. Describe the different types of women and what function they play in the epic. Although the focus is on The Epic of Gilgamesh, you might also reference the role of women in Old Testament creation and in The Odyssey.
