Jack anticipated the objection that he might lose his hand, so he made sure he had the winning hand when he saw the opponent’s hands first.

3.  Were your characters from individualistic or collectivist cultures? Tell how their culture(s) affected how they acted.

He is from an individualistic culture because he wanted to win the game to get the ticket and not to have fun. He didn’t care that others were losing

It’s a stereotype that large scary people like Jack’s opponents are violent.

When Jack won, he thought that he won because he was smart and not out of pure luck.

Jack didn’t rush to declare that he won when he got the full house, he waited to draw another card from the deck, then he asked the others what the cards in their hands were before he gloated in their faces. Once he made sure he had the upper hand, he declared that he won

Receive:won the poker game
Understand that he is a poor person.
Remember: Jack’s friend when they see that Jack took him with him to the ship.
Respond: liking Jack more because he was nice to his friend and took him with him.
9. Based on what we’ve learned in class so far, how could communication have been more effective in this scene(s)?

If the tough guy who wanted to hit Jack spoke more clearly, we could have understood him better. Pronunciation is important in communication.
