CIN 3203 WAN Technologies
Project Requirements for Integrated Project with CIS 3103
Instructions
You are required to complete this integrated project in groups.
Project Brief
You are required to work in groups to fulfill the requirements of a Networking project. This could be a project to improve an existing network or to build a new network.
The objectives of this course are to implement the concepts of Project Management, Routing, Switching and WAN communication.  The network that you plan to design should serve a minimum of 350 users and should include at least 3 routers. The branch or remote offices should connect to the HQ using both Frame Relay and PPP as the WAN protocols.  Part of your task to identify and justify your choice of PPP or Frame Relay used on specific WAN links.
Other requirements for the network are as follows:
–    PPP links should authenticated using CHAP or PAP.  Explain and justify your choice.
–    Design and implementation of a suitable Frame Relay topology, Inverse ARP, point –to-point and multipoint circuits should be completed to establish connectivity between the LANs.
–    Implementation of VLANs and STP should be included as part of this project. Specification of the project will include design and implementation of both standard and extended ACLs.
–    Where applicable, you need to provide recommendations on how complex ACLs can be used in the network should also be provided.
–    DHCP should be implemented in at least one of the LANs and NAT should be enabled on the edge router as private addressing will be implemented within the network
–    The project will be done in phases and work done will be presented and marked in each phase.
This project grade will be determined by the following submissions in each phase and contribute to the course weighting as follows:
–    Phase I – Initiating, Preliminary Investigation report  (March 12th 2015)
This report should outline the current business scenario including detailed explanations on the design, addressing, equipment details and setup of the current network. Your report should outline the problems and issues that the business is facing with regards to their current system and your recommendations for improving it.

–    Phase 2 – Project Analysis (May 17th 2015) – grade included with phase 3
An analysis report that compares existing network technologies and details on the rationale used to the technologies that you have selected for the proposed system should be included
–    Phase 3 – Project Design Report (May 17th 2015) – 5%
o    Network Design (using Packet Tracer)
?    Logical topology
?    Physical Topology
?    IP Addressing Scheme (VLSM)
?    Advanced IP services such as DHCP and NAT
?    Access lists
?    Brief description of network devices used

–    Phase 4 – Project Implementation report and presentation (May 31st 2015) – 10%
o    Implementation (using Packet Tracer)
?    Use of WAN protocols such as PPP and Frame Relay for WAN connectivity
?    OSPF or EIGRP as the routing protocol
?    Use of VLANS, VTP and STP and Access lists (Standard and Extended)
?    DHCP and NAT
?    Report on implementation and troubleshooting which should also include the configuration files and all relevant show commands
Submissions
–    Phase I is not graded.  It is an opportunity for the students to seek feedback from their teacher on whether they have understood the project requirements.
–    Draft copies for each group will be checked only once and feedback will be provided if the submissions are within  2 days before the due date mentioned for each phase
–    Draft and final submissions will have to be checked for plagiarism via Safe Assign. Plagiarism above 15%will not be accepted
–    All submissions have to be done via Bb Learn
–    All groups will have to submit a signed copy of the Academic Honesty Statement along with the final project report
