Children alcoholism.

While working within a school district, a child comes to tell you (the school social worker) that one of her best friends was involved in drinking alcohol alone at home. The student says that her friend’s parents had been through a nasty divorce and her estranged father was constantly trying to manipulate the girl into taking his side. While the friend had revealed her tendency to get drunk, she also warned that if the student tells anyone then they will not be friends anymore. Needless to say, the student feels trapped and wants to be a good friend and keep secrets, but also she wants to help her friend. The student came to you (the school social worker) in tears and states that she has no one to tell that she feels can help her and she desperately wants to help her friend.
1.

3.

4.
What do you feel the “right and ethical” thing to do to intervene in this case would be?
5. What other factors may be important things for the school social worker to consider in this case?
