Book Review of Ceremony
Order Description
Instructions: Write a 3-4 page (900-1200 word) paper that responds to the prompt below. Papers should be double-spaced and submitted to BLACKBOARD by Friday, April 10 at 4 pm.
What is the “ceremony” that is carried out within the novel? Why is this ceremony necessary? How does it work?
These questions can be answered in a number of different ways, but be sure to demonstrate a thorough engagement with the book as a whole as you formulate your answer. If you choose, you may include insights on contemporary Laguna Pueblo culture as depicted in the documentary, Grab, that was shown in class. (If you were absent the day it was shown, this documentary is available for in-library viewing at the Labriola collection in Hayden Library.)
The paper is worth 20 points, or 20% of your final grade in the class.
Grades will be based on:
-engagement with the book: 10 pts
-depth and originality of argument: 5 pts
-writing quality (clarity, spelling, grammar): 5 pts
