A Tendon is a strong collagen fibrous tissue that attaches muscle to a bone.
A Ligament is a flexible connective fibrous tissue that connects bones to bones, cartilage or holds together a joint.
The bones that form the articulation joint of the ankle are fibula, tibia and the talus. It seems that she most likely sprained her ankle. It said that she twisted her ankle, most likely stretching or tearing ligaments in her ankle. A sprain is when you stretch or tear ligaments. A strain is the stretching or tearing of muscle or tendons.
The four major ligaments of the knee are the anterior cruciate ligament, posterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament and the lateral collateral ligament. With the cruciate ligaments they control the forward and backward mobility and how far forward and back the knee is able to go without being sprained. In addition the collateral ligaments control the movements side to side and how far to go without being sprained.
If I was the trainer that initially saw Jill after her fall, I would have probably viewed her knee and saw that it was irritated and inflamed. You would put ice on her knee to try and reduce the inflammation/swelling.
