Role of Nutrition in Cancer & Cardiovascular Disease

Realistic Living

Most people enjoy eating out with friends or may have to do so for work but still need to consider what they ingest because of their health status. For each scenario, you will choose a restaurant and select specific items from the menu that will allow the individual described to participate in the dining experience while addressing his/her condition.  Each response should include suggestions for at least one month (minimum of 4 weeks) of meals and a variety of restaurant choices – as most people do not want to eat at the same restaurant every day or every week. Include a brief explanation/summary for the restaurants of choice and food plan chosen for each:
1.    Michael is a 45-year-old, overweight man who works in construction.  He was recently diagnosed with hypertension and placed on medication.  Every Tuesday and Thursday, his foreman/boss invites the group for drinks and/or dinner.  His boss lets anyone in the group choose the restaurant.  Michael really wants to make a good impression with his boss because he needs a promotion to save money for school to get his college degree.       ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
2.    Greta is a 65-year-old, retired woman who has been diagnosed with cancer and told she must eat more fruits and vegetables to prevent the cancer from spreading.  She has grandchildren of different ages who live nearby and has promised to take entertain and feed them at least 2-3 times/week.  She is concerned about being too sick to play or not being around for them in the next 5 years. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
3.    Amy is a 40-year-old woman smoker who recently suffered a stroke.  She was told to stop smoking, change her diet, and get more exercise.  She is Chief Executive Officer of a struggling Fortune 100 company and needs additional investors for her company, which means she is dining (lunch/dinner) with local and international clients at least 3-4 times every week. Her workday is usually 18+ hours, and she is rarely home long enough to cook.  ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
4.    John is a 50-year-old man who has been diagnosed with colon cancer. He was told to change his eating habits (in addition to taking medications).  He is recently divorced and has 2 kids in college far from where he lives.  John has started reconnecting with friends, especially his football buddies, and successfully petitioned his alma mater to begin weekly social events with alumni in the area. He was told the events must occur at an area restaurant since they will happen after work and to ensure a reasonable number of people attend. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
