Awakened Dreams

Awakened Dreams

The questions:Are we alone in the cosmos? To what extent? Is there a God? How can we know? What do the traditions and philosophers we have explored this semester have to say on this subject? Are there obstacles which stand between us and a relationship with the divine in these traditions? What are they? How are they overcome? Why would we wish to overcome them? What is our relationship to the divine in these traditions? What insights about ourselves does a relationship to the divine bring about? Given a human beings relationship to the divine, or lack thereof, to what extent are we free to determine the course of our own lives? How is this freedom obtained? Do we have to work for it? What obstacles or challenges remain between us and our freedom?

How are these conditions described in the Islamic tradition? How are these questions answered in Islam? Reference at least two separate dreams from Awakened Dreams to answer the above the questions. Provide evidence in the form of citations for every claim you make about Islam. Pay careful attention to the critique provided by this text of the limitations (as well as the benefits) of the human intellect with respect to its ability to perceive and to navigate ultimate reality.

What do the Western Philosophers have to say on these subjects? How are these questions answered in from a Western Perspective? Reference at least one Western Philosopher found in Does the Center Hold?

What is your own response to these questions? Finally, what is your own response to the questions raised here? Of our relationship to the divine? Of our capacity for free will? Of the limitations and benefits of rationality as described in Awakened Dreams?
