Assignment 5: Headache Diagnosis.
Headaches are a very common occurrence. They can be relatively benign or extremely sinister. You are required to pick one of the patient presentations to discuss.
Your discussion should include;
• A severity score out of 10. (10/10 being a patient that you would blue light and 1/10 being a patient you would be happy to leave at home without any follow up)
• A headache diagnosis (class of headache) that you believe fits the patient presentation
• Justification for your diagnosis based upon available evidence
• Identification of other features, information or test which you may require to further confirm your diagnosis. (This may include more definitive tests and their expected results)
• CASE 1
• ONSET: Vague onset – last 2/7 duration appears to be getting worse
• LOCATION: Forehead & Right Temporal Region
• ASSOCIATED SYMPTOMS
• 1. Recent Stress
• 2. Generalized body aches/malaise
• 3. Pain feels like a tight band

• CASE 2
• ONSET: Woke with pain this am. Lasted 3/24
• LOCATION: Unilateral pain. Retro-orbital
• ASSOCIATED SYMPTOMS
• 1. Intense throbbing pain
• 2. Nausea
• 3. Recent cervical injury post heavy lifting

• CASE 3
• ONSET: Sudden onset after falling asleep in the evening 45 mins duration
• LOCATION: Behind right eye
• ASSOCIATED SYMPTOMS
• 1. Severe pain
• 2. Occurs regularly (1-2 times week) usually resolves spontaneously
• 3. Nil visual disturbances or vomiting
