Assessment Project

Instructions to the Student:
This Assessment Project needs to be completed in addition to the formative learning and assessment Tutorial/Class activities you complete in class during the course.

This Project gathers the evidence which in turn evaluates a number of elements of competency that will access knowledge and skills in Managing Projects.

It incorporates the organisation’s overall mission, goals, objectives and operations, a review of project risk management plan and project plan, an evaluation of project reports forwarded to stakeholders, an analysis of documentation reviewing project outcomes and processes against the project scope and plan, and an evaluation of documentation outlining lessons learnt from the project.

You must successfully complete the Assessment Project.

Overview of Assessment Project

This project is made up of 3 parts:

Using an organisation you are familiar with, such as the organisation where you are currently or have previously been employed, or college that you are currently study, identify a project that would contribute to achieving the goals, objectives and/or operations of the organisation.
This may be based on an actual project that you have been involved in, or an example of a project that would be relevant to this scenario.
Develop a detailed scope document, which will form part of the project plan. Your project scope document should have the following sections:
Project Parameters
•    Project description
•    Project purpose (include details on how it relates to the organisation’s objectives and other projects)
•    Project outcomes and deliverables
Project Resources
•    Details of project resources required (human resources, physical resources, financial)

PROJECT SCOPE

Scope: The objective of this project is to refurbish the 100m² office space.
Constraints:
•  Cost not to exceed $21,000
•  To be completed within 2 weeks
•  Site work is limited to Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-4:00 pm
•  No work can be undertaken on Monday 6/7/14 as it is a public holiday
•  Painting and carpet laying must be completed before delivery of furniture 10/7/14

Instructions to the students

In this project activity you will be required to demonstrate your skills and abilities to determine and record details of project plan.  Using the project-scoping document you produced in Assignment task 1, move on to producing a project plan and report.
You will also be required to provide a brief background to the project. A brief discussion showing consistency between this project and the organisations overall business plan should be included. The various stakeholders in the project and their perspective should be identified.
Your project report must include the following:
•    Project Title
•    A brief introduction to the project
•    Business goals and objectives
•    Project goals and objectives
•    Summary of organisational requirements
•    Project stakeholders and their expectations
•    Work breakdown structure that identifies each tasks to complete the project (Gantt Chart)
•    Activity Sequence as part of a schedule. This must include clearly identified project milestones and critical paths.
•    Resource planning
•    Risks management
o    including occupational health and safety
o    Make a control plan to minimise the impact of these risks on your project.
•    Project Budget based on project costing
•    The types of support that will be provided for project team members
•    Details of the record keeping systems that will be used for maintaining records including correspondence, financial data, and time spent on each area of the project
•    A resource management plan, including finances, human resources and quality checks
•    Administer and monitor project to ensure project team members are clear about their responsibilities and the project requirements.

?Assessment Part 3: Finalise and Review project

?    Task Description

This task requires you to finalise the project and review all financial and staffing issues.  You are then required to review project outcomes against the scope and document and comment on the lessons learnt by the project team.
?Task
a)    Describe the steps required to finalise the implementation of this project.  This may involve reallocation of staff to new or previous roles, project documentation, and handover of project outcomes to key stakeholders, sign off by stakeholders.

b)    Meet with your project team to discuss and review the project outcomes against the project scope and plan.  All project team members should be involved in the project review. The trainer will observe the discussion of the project team members.

c)    Prepare a report that documents project outcomes in relation to project plan and lessons learnt.
The preparation of the final report should include:
•    The transfer/handover of the deliverables of the project,
•    Learning the lessons and distributing it,
•    Debriefing stakeholders,
•    A close out report (recording the successes and failures of the project’s life ),
•    Consolidating and archiving ( of all the relevant documents ), and
•    celebrating  achievement
