A case study on agoraphobia

Valery (pseudonym) is a 29 year old Italian, Catholic female. Growing up as an only child, Valerie’s main carers were her mother and grandmother (father’s mother).  Her father was absent from the family life and she rarely saw him for 7 years, since she was 3 years old.  For Valery he is a “completely unreliable person, gabbler that provided no support emotionally or financially and he is constantly letting her down, even today”.  She described an incident when she was around 7, when he lost her in a big supermarket one of the only times he ever took her somewhere.
