7AC001 Accounting and Financial Management Briefing Guidelines

Choice of Company
This is entirely up to you but the company must be on the FTSE top 500. You must email your tutor with your choice, detailing name, student number, course and company. He will reply confirming (or declining) the choice.
I suggest you look up the FTSE – using either the WEB or obtaining a copy of the Financial Times. I would also suggest you go to the company website of the company you are thinking of choosing and investigate them before deciding.

This is a report. This means that it should have a contents page and a summary.
Analysis and history of the development of the company – 20%

Financial Analysis – 70%
This will be based upon (but not solely constrained to) investor ratios analysis of the last two years figures (which should be obtained from the last set of financial statements or other sources). Each ratio should have details of how the calculation has been made in the appendices and evidence of where and when the information was obtained). You should have copies of the Income Statement, Statement of Financial Position (also in the appendices). These should provide sufficient reference for the calculations but if not then copies of other notes to the financial statements can be provided. Use consolidated financial statements rather than company statements if they are both provided.
The analysis should include the change in the ratio, whether that is good (or bad) why the change might have happened, other relevant information including industry averages performance of competitors etc.
