The athletic trap is another book whose author is seen to be concerned about the welfare of student athletes. According to the book, most of the money is seen to flow into the commercialized level of college sports. The unfortunate thing is that “the student-athletes at this level are not being rewarded for their talent or success than the athletes at the lower levels of the big-time college sports hierarchy”. The book contains insights on arguments that there may be compelling practical and economic arguments as to why the best athletes cannot operate as free agents in the college marketplace. It also points out that the commercial growth of big college sports has made it more difficult in arguing that the athletes do not deserve a bigger share of the growing financial pie. It was analyzing the different roles played by students, faculty, conferences, and the NCCA. According to the books, most of the college athletes used to play with the notion that they were playing for the team. “They then realized that their perception made a big difference, claiming that their personal feelings and self-confidence demand that they get paid to do something”. They developed the different perception with an aim that while they get paid, they will leave college without any loans.
