Fertman, Carl I. Student-athlete Success: Meeting the Challenges of College Life. Sudbury,            Mass: Jones and Bartlett Publishers, 2009. Print.

According to the book, many students do not take their time to think about why they usually participate in sports and what they intend to gain out of the participation. The author of the book finds this fact very surprising as no man in his right senses would accept a job without finding out what they would gain out of their dedication to the job. The case is mostly seen in the student-athletes who are seen participating in the sports nearly every day without having a clear definition of what is in it for them. The author points out that “it is normal not to be paid to participate in the college sports, but he then argues that there are a couple of things that one could get out of the unique experience”.

The author of the book is said to be one of the prominent writers who have made remarkable history in their career. The positive reviews of his works makes many research students use his book in their research studies. The fact he uses in describing what he believes makes his work appear among the most credible sources to be used in research papers.

Nitardy, Nancy. Get Paid to Play: Every Student Athlete’s Guide to Over $1 Million in College                  Scholarships. New York: Kaplan Pub, 2007. Print.

Get paid to play is another handbook for college athletes that are seen to have an interest in playing sports in college. Among the insights found in the book is “detailed information about athletic scholarship opportunities”. It also includes tips on matching students to appropriate coaches and programs. The details are seen to be presented in plain language with an appealing accessible design. The book is found to be of significant use in the research paper writing as it has a unique section with lists of athletic scholarship provided by the referral service press. It is also seen to combine extensive coaching, recruitment and counseling expertise. Get paid to play also explains the process for counselors and athletes alike, presenting plans for both athletics and academics. The book is also seen to be of much importance in conducting a research paper as it has some insights that are used in walking student athletes through the recruiting and college application process.

Nixon, Howard L. The Athletic Trap: How College Sports Corrupted the Academy. , 2014.           Internet resource.

The athletic trap is another book whose author is seen to be concerned about the welfare of student athletes. According to the book, most of the money is seen to flow into the commercialized level of college sports. The unfortunate thing is that “the student-athletes at this level are not being rewarded for their talent or success than the athletes at the lower levels of the big-time college sports hierarchy”. The book contains insights on arguments that there may be compelling practical and economic arguments as to why the best athletes cannot operate as free agents in the college marketplace. It also points out that the commercial growth of big college sports has made it more difficult in arguing that the athletes do not deserve a bigger share of the growing financial pie. According to these insights, the book indicates how credible it is to be used in research papers. The facts identified in the book appear to be significant and can be more useful in the research studies.

Nixon, who is the author of the book, is among the reputable people who have done a lot of work in the technology and engineering fields. Just to boost this argument, one can easily realize that the references and sources, he has used in the book are among the scholarly sources. That makes his work among the best that could be practically used by researchers. His work is seen to be very resourceful that can successfully be used in the research study that is to be conducted.

It is pointed out that many institutions offer scholarships to the athletes so that they can emerge to be winners in the thus receiving more money and gaining publicity. “The money they receive is then used without considering the student athletes who had used a lot of energy and time in their dedication to the sports”. Smith, Ronald A. Pay for Play: A History of Big-Time College Athletic Reform. Urbana,    Chicago: University of Illinois Press, 2011. Print.

Pay for play is a book that is seen to trace the attempts at college athletics reform through the early 21st century from 1855. It was analyzing the different roles played by students, faculty, conferences, and the NCCA. According to the books, most of the college athletes used to play with the notion that they were playing for the team. “They then realized that their perception made a big difference, claiming that their personal feelings and self-confidence demand that they get paid to do something”. They developed the different perception with an aim that while they get paid, they will leave college without any loans.

The author of the book is seen to come as an inspiration to many people who are on their way to conduct some research on the student athletes. The references used by the author are from the scholarly sources that make the book appear to be one of the most accepted resources that can be used in research studies. The insights provided by the author are part of the driving point towards the use of the book in research papers.

Yiannakis, Andrew, and Merrill J. Melnick. Contemporary Issues in Sociology of Sport.     Champaign, IL: Human Kinetics, 2001. Print

The book is seen to have some insights on motivating oneself to making sure that one gets something back. Supporting this statement is Thomas, a former Indiana university basketball player who is now a Detroit pistons star. According to the book, a great number of myth shield college sports from the careful scrutiny and burden any discussion of the subject. The author suggests that the main purpose of the college sports is commercial entertainment. “Within most universities with big sports programs, the athletic department operates as a separate business and little or no connection to the academic departments in school”. From these points, it is easily seen that the sporting association majors most of the positive outcomes of the sport rather than the benefits of the individuals who have seen through the success of the sport.

The author of the book makes the publication a special article that can be used in the research as she has a reputable and respected history in the field. The previews of her work are also an inspiration that can drive one to use the book in the research papers as all the positive comments suggest that the insights in the book are from credible sources.
