Answers provided here are for Costco 2012 report. Your answers should pertain to CISCO 2013 annual report.

If you need a copy of CISCO report, please visit CISCO site at www.cisco.com/…/ac49/ac20/ac19/ar2013/docs/2013_Annual_Report.pdf to select “Complete Cisco Systems, Inc. 2013 Annual Report.” Do not print all pages as this will kill a lot of trees. Most information you need starts on page 74. My suggestion is to print pages 74 to 78 to have a hard copy of consolidated financial statements. You also need the information included in the “Notes to Consolidated Financial Statements.” You may view this information online in a soft copy format.

Use “Total Net Sales” of $48,607,000,000 as the numerator for question 16, and the denominator for all the ratios in question 18 for the year 2013.

The terms used in question 18 are slightly different from the ones listed in consolidated balance sheets of CISCO. Here are the differences related to question 18:

Total Revenue = Total Net Sales

Total Cost = Total Cost of Sales

Other Income and Expense = Interest and other income (loss), net

For question 18, I have chosen selected expenses from CISCO’s “statements of operations.” Therefore adding these expenses to income will not produce 100% ratio. I only included expenses that are common in most corporations. Plus those are the expenses that are mentioned in your text on page 727. Therefore, amortization of purchased intangible assets and in-process R&D amounts are not listed. Had I listed these two expenses, you would have been able to arrive at 100% ratio.

Add “sales and marketing” figure to “general and administrative” figure to respond to “Selling, General, and Admin. Expenses” in question 18.

If an amount in the annual report is entered in millions, make sure to properly state it. For example, total assets amount for CISCO is either $101,191 MILLIONS or 101,191,000,000. It is not $101,191.
