Skill Practice #1:
a) In this part of the lesson, the children will now be applying what they have learned in the Skill Teaching part of the lesson by preparing and then presenting Frozen Pictures. The teacher will organise the children into groups and each group will have the same number of children in it. The number of children needed for the groups will be determined by the number of characters needed in the Frozen Picture, but it is better to have at least 3 and not more than 5 children in the groups and children can play objects as well as people if needed. This will be different for each Stage so choose the option that suits your lesson, as follows:
• For Kinder, Year 1 & Year 2: all the groups will be doing the same ‘happiest moment’ in the folk tale and your task is to list the characters/objects that will be needed for each group (ie, each character/object that the children will represent in the Frozen Picture)
• For Year 3, 4, 5, & 6: each group will be doing different moments based on the Storyboard that was done in the Pre-Experience and the teacher will allocate one of the moments to each group (ie, one square each group). Your task is to choose one of the moments/squares from the storyboard and indicate which moment/square this is (what is happening at that moment) and list the characters/objects that will be needed (ie, each character/object that the children will represent in the Frozen Picture).
b). The teacher gives instructions for the children to prepare a Frozen Picture or Pictures, allowing 5 – 10 minutes for them to decide and practice how they will arrange themselves in their Frozen Picture. Then the teacher asks each group to present their Frozen Picture. Write a brief explanation of how you would organise the presentations/what you would say to the children in terms of the beginning and ending signals for the presentations.
c) During the presentations, the teacher spotlights one of the groups and guides them to say a short piece of conversation/dialogue between two of the characters in the Frozen Picture. Writea brief example of one conversation/dialogue.
