he purpose of the pre-experience activities is to give the children a basic knowledge and comprehension of the story before doing the drama lesson.

The purpose of the pre-experience activities is to give the children a basic knowledge and comprehension of the story before doing the drama lesson. Firstly, imagine the teacher tells the story orally to the children and then uses the technique of Story Map (for Kinder – Year 2) or Story Board (for Year 3 – Year 6). Your task is to:
• Read about Story Maps and Story Boards in the Process Drama Techniques document in Topic 2 of the drama Topic Notes.
a) Write a very brief explanation of how you will organise and teach the Story Map (whole class, groups, pairs, individual work, etc).
b) Include an example of the Story Map or Story Board that the children might do. This needs to be DRAWN BY HAND, not computer images – stick figures are fine. Note the Story maps/boards used in drama are not the same as those used in English lessons.
Warm-up:
• Read the document called ‘Drama warm-ups’ in Topic 2 of the Drama Topic Notes.
a) Choose a warm-up that would fit with your story.
b) Write the title of the warm-up you have chosen and a brief explanation of how you would adapt this to your folk tale. Include examples of the aspects of the warm-up that need to be adapted (eg, types of fruit in ‘Fruit Salad’ would be changed to something else that is related to the story).
Lesson Introduction (Concentration & Discussion Activities):
The teacher will do a Guided Visualisation as the ‘concentration activity’. Your task is to:
• Read about Guided Visualisation in the ‘Process Drama Techniques’ document in Topic 2 of the Drama Topic Notes. See the example of a Guided Visualisation in the first 15 minute video from teacherstv in Topic 1 of the drama Topic Notes called KS1/2 Drama – Teaching Drama.
a) Using the example in the readings and the video, write a Guided Visualisation teacher narration using age-appropriate language and concepts – about 300 words maximum – DON’T include the relaxation part at the beginning and end that you will see in the reading.
b) The teacher will then do a discussion activity with the children. Your task is to write 2 questions that you would use to initiate and guide the classroom discussion around what happened in the Guided Visualisation. Explain how you will do the discussion – is it with the whole class, think-pair-share, or small groups?
