William Palmer (1740-1816) with his companion, Faiz Baksh (d. 1828), a Mughal princess, seated on his right with their three children, William, Mary and Hastings and three ayahs; the lady sitting to Palmer’s left is the sister of Faiz. Palmer was an army officer in the East India Company and aide-de-camp to Warren Hastings.
